Like others, I too have this problem. I live on a fairly quiet road, but normally approach from the direction where the driveway is on the right. If there is a car behind me, I'll signal right and pull over to the right side of the road just beyond the driveway, and reverse in once the car has pbutted. If a car is approaching from the other direction, I'll normally flash them through (as there is always a car parked on their side which they have to pull out to pbutt) and wait.
Often, though, there are cars parked variously on both sides of the road such that there is nowhere to stop and wait for the pbutting-approaching traffic. Do I signal right or left (as I have to pull to the right, then left to be stopped right across the road in order then to reverse, like half way round a 3-point turn)? Or should I just stick my hazard lights on, stop, engage reverse and hope they understand what I'm up to?
Fortunately so far in my 4 years here, I haven't encountered any bad tempers over my manoevering. I think it's part of the hazards of driving on such a road.
