Indicating on the motorway 1734

That surprises the heck out of me, considering that later in the same article it says that Claritin and Allegra are OK, as long as you say that you suffer no side...

The Highway Code doesn't seem to have a definitive answer. My own view is that it depends on the particular circumstance. 99% of the time your way is how I would do it. Think however of the case of an HGV in lane 1 approaching a slower vehicle when middle lane traffic is heavy. Clearly he wants to maintain his speed. The middle lane traffic will be unaware of his need to change lanes as the size of the HGV will obscure their view of the slower vehicle. IMHO, it is perfectly OK for the HGV to signal, alerting you of his desire to move over. In that situation, buttuming there was a line of traffic behind me, I would either ease off enough to let the HGV out or move into lane 3 if possible.

I don't wish to be in any way loveist, and would entirely agree that there is not a definitive way of doing this, but I have noticed that many drivers intending to join a motorway put their RH indicator on long before seems sensible. Sometimes even before they have reached the motorway proper. For some reason, they are female about 90% of the time. Or else a BMW driver - sometimes both of course!

In the same way, if a vehicle is stopped at the kerb but wanting to join a stream of traffic, and signalling whilst waiting for a gap, it is almost always a female.

Please don't flame me, I have no firm opinion on the merits of drivers abilities based on their love; it is just something I have often wondered about.

Ed Chilada ah, one of my pet hates: motorway etiquette: section3: incorrect indication ! indicating is not a request for permission, it's a notification...
