I don't think this kind of black and white atbreastude helps anyone. Yes, the cars next to the slip road don't have to move over, and yes, the cars joining the motorway should try and pace themselves to find a gap and slot in neatly. But all vehicle have a duty to help each other, and drivers have different levels of skills and knowledge. If you can move to the right and make life easier for vehicles joining then I think you should. There's nothing to be gained by being pig-headed and saying "well I know my rights and I'm not budging".
Is it just me 493According to my calculations, ( probably not 100pc watertight ) any car capable of 0 to 60mph in 15secs or less will make it from 30 to 60 within 170yds. Lorries are limited...
I've had no problems so far with joining the motorway, and have been able to pick out a gap and adjust speed as needed in order to slot in. I have no expectation that drivers will move over, but if they can it opens up more space which makes life easier for those on the slip road.
Of course, you also get people barrelling down the slip road, onto the motorway and then moving across all three lanes so they can engage their warp drive. They're idiots, and part of the rich tapestry that is the UK roads.
I know what you mean but I think it's everyone's job to co-operate and if you can put a bit extra into the pot, and not take moral stances against others taking more than their share out, I think that's the best and safest atbreastude.
