Jings!!! Is it just me

Currently doing a trunk run down to Carlisle and back each night and on the return trip I have to cross the 4th road bridge. Normally there are 2 toll booths open and this morning is no exception. I arrive in the toll area at 04.30 approx. While the construction work is on there are cones all around the place bu the basic layout is that there are 2 feeder road for the bridge - 1 from the A90 Edinburgh and the other is a slip road from the Echline roundabout. This is the road that I use and I consequently use the left hand booth (the r.h. is for the A90). There is a dashed dividing line splitting the number of tolls in half (I think its 4 and 4 each). Anyway as I approached I see that the booth for the A90 had a car there paying the toll and I just carried on as usual to the Echline slip one. Except that a Joe Bloggs in his car who cant be arsed to wait on ONE car in his booth decided to use mine instead. We are the only three vehicles in the toll area. Trouble is that he didnt see me 1. I just managed to stop after litterally slamming the brakes on and skidding to a halt just 2 feet from the n-f corner of his car - he braked at the same time too. I asked him if he didnt see me and his reply was a simple "no". Is it me? Do I drive with the lights out or is white not a very reflective colour for a unit and trailer?

1 Approx 54ft long, 13 ft high and lit up like a North Sea oil rig. Easy to miss though.
