Kent Police have written and apologised to Broadcaster Adrian John who was visited at his home by two police officers and cautioned for 'harbuttment' after he had caught the Chairman of The Kent & Medway Camera Partnership Keith Hanshaw, speeding. Mr Hanshaw called the police and claimed he was being harbutted. The CPS have said there were no grounds for this allegation. Kent Police Regional Superintendent Peter West, said it was quite clear that Mr John had been carrying out journalistic duties after having been invited to "police" the partnership by Chris Rogers, Operations Manager of the Kent Speed Camera Partnership.

So far Mr John has caught 7 of their civilian speed camera van drivers speeding. Staff at the partnership said they are in fear of him ....... his response is "all they have to do is obey the same laws expected of the public and they would have no need to be in fear".

This was the original posting:
The Chairman of The Kent & Medway Camera Partnership has hit back at the person who caught him speeding. Two police officers turned up at the home of the broadcaster and issued him with a warning for harrbuttment. The interesting thing was that the partnership had originally asked the broadcaster to police them, following complaints from members of the public about their vans speeding. Unfortunately the broadcaster caught 7 of their vans speeding and now more recently, has caught the Chairman who is also the Road Safety officer for Medway Council. The partnership have contacted radio stations he is buttociated with and made false claims about his behaviour and then denied they made the call. However the BBC say they have received a call making allegations about the broadcaster, allegations which it seems have turned out to be untrue.
This latest attempt of involving the police, is seen as an intimidation to prevent him from filming them breaking the law, and to put off media from printing the story.
The broadcaster has now made complaints to the police himself accusing members of the Kent & Medway Camera Partnership of wasting police time and of harrbuttment and intimidation. This latest skirmish follows the filming of Keith Hanshaw, Chairman of the Kent & Medway camera partnership who was seen driving at 60mph in a 50 limit and 40 mph in a
30 limit, both of which would have attracted a fine and endorsement had
one of his own partnership cameras been at the scene.
