Last Weeks Traffic Cops 5048says... Yep. I was always brought up to repect the police, as were my parents-stepparents. Something seems to have changed since my childhood though. Even my law abiding stepdad "Wouldn't pee on one...

It's funny what different counties call them. Coming back up from the Portsmouth ferry to Nottingham with a friend on a night last year (it docked late and we were only off at 10:30pm), we pbutted through several counties onn empty roads. One called them 'speed cameras', one called them 'safety cameras' and one called them 'enforcement cameras'. After about 2 months in N. Spain it brought home to me and my friend just what a raw deal the British Government gives the average motorist.
0.88 Euros (~60.6p)-litre for 95 RON at the most expensive petrol station in the middle of nowhere, 10 cents or so off for diesel, No hbuttle from the Civil Guard (cops) asking to see the papers of 3 20-year-olds with a UK registered car (just a friendly chat about the nature of our business - but everyone thought what we were doing was wierd anyway), No speed cameras so you can do 90 along nice straight roads when conditions allow (we got to know the roads better than the locals), 50 through deserted 'villages' and so on. Their only idea of speed reduction in towns is to turn a traffic light to red in the middle of a straight stretch with no junctions, etc. No road tax. The common UK road tolls arguement doesn't wash. The tolls are worth every cent of a Euro - you get through the booth and watch Ferraris leave you with a nice wide open road ahead.
No doubt speed kills. We saw a Golf IV upside down (!) on the motorway between Bilbao and Pamplona but the occupants had survived the mishap in the previous 15 minutes. They leave most of the wrecked cars on the verges of motorways as examples to everyone else it would seem. But then there is the issue of making money from motorists which the British Government can't resist.
Those were the days! This country sucks. Big time.
