THe crime figures do not support their fears. There is only so much you can do but 99% of it is entirely down to the individual to resolve and if they've got it into their heads, there's not alot you can do
Or are you saying that people should be arrested and get a criminal record solely because they happen to look a certain way even though they're going about their lawful business? After all, that appears to be exactly what people are wanting when they go on about "hoodies" for example.
We've already got the situation in many areas where the Police can move on more than two teenagers sat on a wall having a chat just because some dizzy bint who was walking on the other side of the road felt a but uneasy after reading the latest Daily Bullpooter sensationalism. If that isn't over reacting, I don't know what is. The consequences that the Daily Mail brigade haven't thought to consider is that these same teenagers will then have a very dim view of the Police which is likely to have some very serious ramifications in the next decade or so.
But there's "vulnerable" people everywhere so it's not something that can be avoided. Take for example, Bridlington. The majority of the population are of retirement age and they live absolutely everywhere throughout the town. As a result, the kids suffer tremendously from the intolerance of the blue rinse brigade and from the council who are hell bent on turning the entire town into a residential care home. The kids eventually say "f*** it, if we're going to be demonised then we might as well do what they say we're doing anyway." It is self perpetuating.
