I am envious that you had such good training. Me? All I got was from watching my folks drive then being given very brief instructions on how to shift the crash box on the truck (34 Chev 1 1-2 ton, 38 cornbinder 2 ton, with 2spd axle (manual shift there so split shifting was fun), 46? KB5 cornbinder. Others over the years along with more cars than I care to count.
As for young drivers being poor drivers: As a clbutt yes. They have the reflexes but not the seat of the pants feelings, not the judgement and no, they do not get anywhere near the training you had. Just refer to any insurance stats. Worst are youne, next worse are oldsters (you and me). I was also a good driver, did 4 wheel drifts - yes, controlled ones, did a few laps around a couple race tracks etc but now I know I am no longer a "good driver". I am a careful driver.
Using yours or my experience to justify young drivers just ain't going to work. Everyone drove back where I grew up too and every one of us thought we were the hottest drivers to ever hit the turnpike - we weren't by a damn sight.
