Cars for 'comfort
What depresses me about the dissolution of MG Rover is the fact that we have lost the one manufacturer still specialising in cars...

Cars for 'comfort' 5373

My first thought was.. no way! But I think the idea does have some merit. That way she can learn basic accelerating, braking, steering, road craft etc without the need to think about gears and clutch etc. I know my biggest problem was getting the clutch control right when moving off, especially when in a queue of traffic on a hill, a problem which goes away completely when your are using an auto.

I learned and pbutted entirely using a manual, but some years later had my first go of an automatic transmission and I was amazed how much less 'thinking' you have to do about your driving, e.g. what gear am I in, what gear and I going to need to be in, what are my revs, what's the traffic doing, will I need to change for this hazard etc, all gone with an auto, I'm sure it'll be a big advantage to a learner who already has a lot to think about!

Just don't leave it too long to switch to the manual tramsmission or it may well backfire and she'll reject it in favour of driving autos for the rest of her life!
