Lib Dem's plans to tax motorists 646

The trouble with looking at it in such a simplistic way is that some poor sod trying to raise a family on an average wage of, say, £20k is really struggling - to such an extent we have some hugely over-complicated 'tax credit' system to try and bring an average wage up to a sensible living wage.

Someone earning £100k not only has a decent living wage, but also has a significant excess of cash for a pretty damned luxurious lifestyle.

The whole point of a civilised and democratic society is to share the wealth of the nation enabling all citizens to afford a comfortable lifestyle.

If the solution to this is to cut tax levels at lower wage scales by compensating with higher tax levels at upper pay scales, then so be it. It's what we have to do to maintain some sort of standard of living for all citizens.

Of course, I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't need to struggle to pay the bills each month to understand this whilst they charge across Europe in their SUV or Jag. - I mean, you must be working so much harder for your cash than my neighbours who work all the overtime they can to pay the mortgage and bills.

It's not simply about applying percentages, it's about setting a dignified standard of living for everyone and applying appropriate taxes to ensure all citizens can attain at least this minimum. -- Steve H 'You're not a real petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo' www.italiancar.co.uk - Honda VFR800 - Hongdou GY200 - Alfa 75 TSpark Alfa 156 2.0 TSpark - B6 Pbuttat 2.0TDI - COSOC KOTL BoTAFOT #87 - BoTAFOF #18 - MRO # - UKRMSBC #7 - Apostle #2 - YTC #
