Try "majority of the working population who don't work in a major city & live close to a railway line".

It's not vastly different round my neck of the woods.

With the "promised" tax cut, it would still make it hundreds of pounds more to own a car over the year.

However, the car is a necessary evil, without it, I couldn't earn, so I would have to pay it.

As it happens, for the CO emissions, my tax would only go up £15, because I'm outputting 154g-km.

If people are faced with a huge bill, and can't afford it, they'll try to get as much for their car as they can, and get a smaller engined one, or a diesel.

Reps have their fuel paid for by their company.

"Rich gits" won't notice the extra VED, and are probably going to be better off with the tax breaks.

I suppose this is a break from the normal "hammer middle England" taxes, in that it'll hammer everyone else except sales reps & the rich.
