London to Manchester Part Two

OK Thanks to everyone who replied to my orig post.

Did the trip yesterday and considered all the options.

Decided on a wait and see appoach how the traffic was moving as I made my journey instead of having a set route.

Started out, and as expected the M1 up to M Keynes was busy and then cleared. On approach to the M6 TOll I decided to try it as the matrix signs were saying delays at Jct 8-9 NB M6 but TOLL was clear. Very nice drive i must say and MUCH queiter than I expected. Got delayed for about 1 mile rejoining the old M6 and then again further along at Jct 14 due to an accident (rolling road really).

Nearer the City centre I opted for the A556-M60-A5301 route which worked very well and was quite clear except the last mile or so (but it was rush hour)

Uno Hoo! from Yes, but with a lot of practice you probably could learn to plaster from a book. It's a...

The return journey was going to be the same but in reverse, however the Tom Tom lost the signal (high buildings) and as a result re-calculated the route to use the M602-M6-M1and as it was late I did not want to waste time messing about trying to retrace my steps so simply followed that. I pbutted thru several roadworks on the way back (reduce to 50 with either 1 or 2 lanes closed off) one of these was at Jct 14 M6 (sharp bend) which I pbutted at about 11.30pm and yet whilst on the M1 one hour 40 mins later there were reports of "standing traffic" on the approach to this restriction and the time by then must have been about 01.10 am ;-( - glad I got thru ;-)

I really do sympathise with the RHA and farmers etc who are at their wits end over the...

My Tom Tom said that the M602 route was the fastest but would it have been longer than the A5301-M60-A556 route???
