I just got a NIP for doing 35 in a 30 in Anglesey. I read somewhere that if I challenge this, the average penalty rises from £60 and 3 points to around £150 and 4 points. Clearly they are worried that large numbers of people might appeal against what can only be described as ridiculous enforcement 1, and if too many people appeal, the system will break down. Maybe they pay the magistrates to throw the book at people who dare challenge the absolute authority of the Brunstromia Safety Scamera Partnership. As for me, I'll just pay up and accept the fine, the points, and the likely insurance premium hike. After all I'm clearly a dangerous driver.

The problem is, after two occasions of missing a speed camera, I will have to give more attention to misplaced boxes on the side of the road. The first speed camera was at...

1 The day before there was a bane accident where a frustrated motorist decided he'd had enough of sitting behind a queue of crawlers - sorry people driving safely - and decided to overtake somewhere inappropriate (to say the least). Road closed for 4 hours, several ambulances and an air ambulance required. At least one person didn't "arrive alive". I await a detailed report on this incident on the North Wales Police web site on whether the taxes raised from "speeders" are sufficient to fund the costs of bane accidents like this.
