Left Dartford at 22:30 last Saturday night to go home to Hertfordshire via Southend to drop off my sister. When I joined the M25 at 1AM, after leaving southend, a sign was warning of the motorway closed between J26 and J25. Even at that time it is possible there would be a queue, so I joined the M11 northbound intending to take the A414 from Harlow to Hertford.
The A414 is duel carriageway from Harlow to Hertford so a speed limit of 70mph. I was feeling tired so I decided to keep my speed around 60mph. About half way to Hertford I noticed a speed camera, so I checked my speed which was 60mph on the speedo and 58 on the GPS. As I pbutted it I was flashed twice. 30 yards past the camera, I pbutted an NSL sign.
Made mistake. 906Its good to know you can spot a camera but not a flood - that will keep you safe. I can understand your gloating but I...
So, I must have missed a 50mph sign, hands up to that. When I pbutted it, it was 01:30. There were no cars behind or in front, the junction was clear, no car lights observed either side - the road was empty.
I would love to know the logic behind placing the camera AFTER the junction and 30 yards before the NSL. Surely it would be better placed PRIOR to the junction? I guess they followed the douglas Bader advice of "getting 100 planters after they dropped their plants, rather than 20 before"
So, I may get a letter through the door soon. I am not winging about it as I made the mistake, but I do wonder what is being gained from a safety point of view.
