Are rates higher for males vs females due to women receiving fewer tickets because most LEO's are male?
My agents say no, it's mostly based on overall crash statistics per age segment and pretty much regulated by the individual state's Insurance Commision. Other factors such as area of residence (urban-rural) and daily miles driven to work-school and average miles per year also come into consideration.
Males have a far higher crash-claim rate than females in most age groups. Tickets are not as large an influence (in OH-KY) on rates as insurance companies are aware that LEO's may issue citations in error and that it's usually in the cited driver's best interest not to contest.
Discounts are largely affected by age, marital status, presence of children... factors that will influence a driver's concern for safety and how their actions may have a detrimental influence on their loved ones.
The young single person of either love with the least amount of driving experience and, perceptually the least to lose, are the most dangerous drivers and therefore pay the highest initial rates regardless of driving record. Students who maintain a good GPA are often offered discounts as such is considered a sign of increased maturity-sense of responsibility.
This is not what I would consider a definitive answer. But it's the best I could wrangle out of 'em. -----
