More from the horse's mouth

The what? Don't you mean "the examiner"?

OK. But if things have "gone bad" then any speed that you use to save the situation is irrelevant. If you need to do 80 then you do 90.

I've got one of those step counter thingies blu-tacked to the dash of my Berlingo, it counts the number of humps I cross every day. Almost my whole working day...

Still, that wouldn't apply to you though eh? You'd be dead before your car went that fast.

It wouldn't. I have never met an examiner that is so anal about limits that they don't exercise common sense. So long as the drive is at an appropriate speed and you don't take the pee you should be fine.

On my very first advanced test I was very conscious of my speed. I was driving on an NSL SC and we were doing about 55-60. After a couple of miles the examiner said, "actually we are going a little slow. Don't worry, you're not going to scare me; I'm not one of those namby-pamby traffic cops." After that I settled down, was much more relaxed and the drive was much more "natural". He knew that I had been "holding back" and was much happier afterwards.
