Yes, a B is an indication of the quality of work done in a compebreastive environment. The problem is...

(snip)

Holy kristo, they start that honors crap in 4th grade now? No wonder she's burnt out. I was pushed into the honors program in 7th grade, and it took less than a year for ME to burn out. I never dropped below a B average, but I quickly realized that I was working really hard to maintain that, when I'd previously had straight A's without even trying. The kicker was when I examined the curriculum more closely, and realized that the two tracks (honors and non-honors) converged by 12th grade.

Let's see . . . work real hard to get B's or skate by with straight A's taking the SAME CLbuttES??? Tough decision. I pulled MYSELF out of the honors track. The only difference is that those who stayed on the honors track had more of their required high school credits completed earlier, so some of them graduated high school early, if they kept their schedule full*. I accomplished the same thing by increasing my number of clbuttes in my freshman and sophomore years. That is, I graduated early, not on the honors program.

I later went on to score 1450 on my SAT, even though I hadn't spent a single second preparing for it, and honestly didn't know what to expect going into it, other than it was (in actual practice at the time anyway) some kind of entrance exam for college. I didn't even care about my score because (at the time, anyway) I had no immediate plans to even go to college. I went to college later, but when I took the SAT, I really didn't care about it.

And it doesn't matter one twit for college either. It only matters as a screening for the thousands who don't take a break from school. I was not allowed to. I did not...

Anyway, to get back on topic . . . your daughter might want to compare the non-honors track with the honors track. If they're still running it the way they used to, she might find it easier to take the same clbuttes on the non-honors schedule and keep her GPA high without getting burnt out. -Dave

*In my high school, if you were ahead on credits, your default schedule was adjusted accordingly so that you had bullpoo like clbuttes 1st and SEVENTH period, but a couple "study halls" in the middle of the day somewhere, so that you had to be in school all fricking day to take 4 or 5 clbuttes. Meanwhile, you were only a couple credits shy of graduating at the end of the year, so the study hall really screwed you, by forcing you to stay in high school another semester or longer for a couple of measly credits.
