And it doesn't matter one twit for college either. It only matters as a screening for the thousands who don't take a break from school.

I did not intend to imply this.

I did this also. One of my teachers paired me with the kid who had a severe learning problem; I think he was at moron level. I was very successful in getting him to be able to do the math; he pbutted. The parents objected to my helping him and that was the end of that. I was not allowed to help anymore unless the teacher was out of the clbuttroom and we did it under the table.

I also learned that being bored in school was preferable to working in the fields.

I never studied. This was not a good thing because I walked into college completely unprepared. I had no idea how to study.

Heh. It was a snob thing. One teacher observed that the smartest kid in high school was not invited to join the Honors Society and that somebody should have been shot for that. She finally sponsored me.

There wasn't a separate track in the school. There was extracirricular activities. And that's it. Most of it was begging for money which was abhorrent to me.

It never has been and it never will be. Smart people scare everybody.

Being popular has nothing to do with that. It was a choice of where you wanted to spend your time and brain energies. If you intend to get something done that is going to take man-centuries worth of work, you cannot waste your time establishing social tracks. It's a choice. Some kids can do it and some kids can't.
