Morons in line at the cheap station, was Hurricane Katrina Comments and Questions

fuel,

Funny you should mention that. (the long lines, that is)

Last night, gas in this area was $2.68 plus 1 on average. This morning, gas was $2.99 on average. This afternoon, gas was $3.24 ON AVERAGE. As I'm typing this, maybe it's hit $4.00 already, on average. I live in New York.

On my way home this afternoon (Gas $3.24), there was one station that hadn't bothered to up their prices recently. (it still had last night's price, about 60 cents cheaper)

I was forced to STOP in the road by this gas station. I didn't need gas (had a full tank), but DOZENS of vehicles, mainly minivans and SUVs, had filled in ALL available off-road space waiting for the few pumps available, and several more drivers decided they were just going to wait IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, because there was no room to pull into the gas station anymore. Oh, did I mention that most of the vehicles waiting had their engines running . . . even the ones that were parked nowhere near the road?

I don't know if they all waited for their turn or not. I do know that the guy at the end of the line likely would have been there a couple of HOURS, parked in the road, with his engine running, if he DID bother to wait for his turn.

Fricking morons. Probably half of them wasted a lot more money idling in line than they saved at the ~60 cents per gallon lower price they paid for the fuel. Right down the road was another station still selling for $2.85 (also well below average price of $3.24), and (surprise, surprise), all the pumps were open when I drove by. -Dave
