TripleS
I'm not aware that there were any worries. There's an article here about the race:
A couple of paragraphs from the article:
"The great Juan Manuel Fangio reportedly wanted to take part but wouldn't go against the vote of his colleagues. Too dangerous, they said. The surface of Monza's steep banking was rough and bumpy, and the speeds that would be attained were simply not safe. Tires could burst, and the result would be deadly. After 170+mph tests on the banking with a Chrysler V8-powered roadster, Firestone also was concerned. It was agreed that the race would be split into three equal-distance heats totaling 500 miles. As it turned out, this would be a critical decision. ... There were no tire failures, and the feared carnage never happened. But Monza's bumpy track took its toll on the roadsters. Between heats, virtually every American car had to have broken suspension parts replaced and repaired before continuing, while the Jags looked good to run all day. Only five roadsters were able to start the final heat and among them, just three finished, followed by the three sturdy Jaguars - still circulating at a comfortable 135 mph after 3,200 miles of racing."
