I believe NM is the reverse. I can give you an example of eye protection causing (almost, in this case) an accident though, maybe you guys are the lucky ones.
A few years ago during the Red River rally, lots of us were out on a poker run when it started hailing. My goggles fogged up with me winding up half way through a corner before I even knew it was coming, wanting to slow down because I was coming in too fast, and daring not to hit my brakes due to the ice (hail) all over the road and I still couldn't see because my goggles were fogged! As I ripped the goggles away so I could see, I could see that I was into a turn in which I wasn't turning and had better turn far faster than I am comfortable with and had not lean too far or touch any breaks because of the slickness. Thankfully, I was not overdoing my skills or the road (although I admit I was overdoing it for the weather, but who could guess my goggles could fog up that quick?) or I would have been going too fast to use my feet as outriggers allowing me to lean further on the slick surface making that curve.
For you helmet proponents, I wish I had a full face helmet that day. That hail hurt! And the helmet fogging up might be less likely than with goggles, thus avoiding the "cause?" I don't know on this one. Thankfully, I didn't have to find out.
