Going along a straight wide NSL "B" road in the sunshine at about 9 a.m. Frost on the verges (had to scrape the ice of the car windows before leaving home...

No maybe not, but as with many situations it depends on speeds, distances, space available, rate of closing etc.

I believe there are times when you can legitimately use the speed and positioning of your own vehicle to prompt another driver to adjust their approach. For example:

You are driving along a single carriageway road, and some distance ahead of you is a parked vehicle on your left, so you will need to pull out and allow decent clearance while pbutting it. Coming the other way is another vehicle which you will meet round about the point where the parked vehicle is. Quite often the oncoming vehicle will drive down the middle of his lane, or through the middle of the available gap (which of course they are enbreastled to do) showing no sign of making any provision for you.

On the other hand if they were thinkers they might adjust their positioning to allow you more space to go through past the parked car at the same time. If they are sufficiently switched on to do this then that's fine, but if not perhaps one might drop them a hint. With me this sometimes means I'll pull out early, and rather further than I need to do, and see if they get the message and move over. If they do, and we both feel happy that we're working to the same plan, that's good. If they do not appear to understand what you're seeking to do, always leave yourself time and space to gather yourself up, slow down, move left, and wait until the oncoming vehicles has crossed with you before pulling out to pbutt your parked vehicle. Never rely on co-operation from the oncoming driver until you are quite sure it will be forthcoming.

Obviously this sort of 'trick' should never be used in a pushy or aggressive manner. It is more a case of being positive and mildly buttertive - a bit like 'Good morning folks, do you mind if we do it this way?'
