I'd be happier if people just stopped pbutting the buck at all :-) No. I understand that...

like they were saying :

I'd put it the other way round - "safer" roads can be driven safely with less care.

"So what's the difference?" - the difference lies in the presumed starting point.

It seems to me that you're presuming a base point of a low level of attention which can be raised when required.

I'm presuming an idealised base point of a high level of attention, which can be lowered when appropriate.

Yep. That has nothing whatsoever to do with the road. Nutters are likely to be found at any time, on any road. They are entirely unpredictable and are...

The problem with the low base point is that you don't *know* when you need to raise the attention level if it's low - because you miss the cues. The result is whinging about "invisible" hidden dips that "you couldn't see. Or "Sorry, mate, I didn't see you".

Really?

Well, I hate to break this to you, but your computer requires care to use correctly. So does cooking beans on toast.

Does that make them "dangerous"?

I don't quite see that - your version implies some self-awareness and self-criticism, which I really don't think is present in most people who claim they crashed because "the road was dangerous". When it's used, most of the time it's used as a buck-pbutt.
