Yes, technically I exceeded the speed limit. I didn't deny that. However the issues here are consistency and transparency. If I did 35 in a 30 where I live I would not be flashed by a camera, as the thresholds are set higher than this. Also the cameras are well marked and advertised in advance (and I don't mean hundreds of black camera signs every few hundred yards - which are meaningless - I mean the new style blue ones which mean there is definitely a camera (site) just ahead). In North Wales they set the threshold as low as they can get away with, and hide their Talivans at locations which guarantee the maximum income - e.g. just after an unexpected 30 sign round a bend.
Next time I visit Anglesey I will do like the locals and crawl along making sure I never even reach the speed limit. Then I can wait for some impatient tourist to lose patience, overtake somewhere stupid, and crash head on into another vehicle. Yes, precisely this happened the day before I was booked. (No I wasn't around at the time - although I did get stuck in the resulting gridlock.)
Have a look here. In particular note the caravan site web site which has a link to "speed camera locations". I don't ever recall being overtaken by a speeding caravan, but evidently they get booked for "speeding" in Anglesey. Actually that's a busy road (and where the accident I referred to happened). I was done on a different (deserted) road at 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon.
BTW Nice to know that you "speed sometimes". Depends on which part of the country you "speed" in I guess. Hope your luck holds out. If not, when you eventually get a NIP, please tell us all about it.
