I object to this demonisation of "dangerous" junctions too. But it doesn't alter the fact that certain busy road junctions do have an appallingly high kill rate against the average driver population.
Where fast traffic on a dual carriageway is put into direct conflict with right turning side traffic it is arguably the most dangerous junction manoeuvre you can encounter in terms of time spent at risk.
It only takes a moments lapse of concentration or a white line overrun and the side traffic is into the path of vehicles doing 70+mph. Whatever your view of the way it is reported these types of accidents happen with monotonous regularity on the road network.

No it happens all the time. Our local crossroads junction at the Black Swan was closed because of exactly this sort of media hysteria about a notorious accident blackspot on the A19. It end about one person a year mainly the elderly and inexperienced young drivers. Several road blocking KSI's as well, but almost no minor collisions.
Most common driver errors at modest speeds are not immediately bane but those involving high speed impacts square on to the drivers side door often are.
The junction wasn't perfect. If anything the visibility was too good. But there is clearly a problem if a fair proportion of the UK driver population cannot drive through it without putting themselves and other drivers at serious risk of an accident.
You can even have a pbuttively dangerous road that is so boring (and lacking in services) that people fall asleep at the wheel and crash into bridge supports or trees. Usually they just wake up in a field. A19 has a long record for this too.
