Some peds just have a restwish
Just had my car M.O.T. done It's an old car so invariably there were a couple of things needed doing . . . one of which was a couple of new break...

Following up to Brimstone

I don't think they ever did. I think it all started with the idea (from the redefiners) that there was a problem with "dangerous road" and "accident" in that they implied that the driver was *not* therefore at fault. As far as I can remember nobody here, on either side, agreed with that idea1. The difference between the two camps is that one side are happy that accidents are blameworthy and that crashing on a dangerous road is usually the fault of the driver. The other camp want to avoid those words because they believe the use allows drivers to avoid blame. I say the simple answer is that if someone says something stupid, like "I crashed because the road was dangerous" then disabuse them of their misunderstanding. Life is full of people who don't understand things, driving is an area probably of full of them as any, as is use of english and understanding of the words that make it up, as proved here.

1 except in that roads have a contributory role in accidents and therefore danger, the idea that a motorway isn't inherently more safe than a three lane shared overtaking road is so ludicrous to me, I find it hard to believe anyone would propose otherwise. Likewise the idea that crash barriers don't contribute to safety and therefore a reduction in danger. -- Mike Reid
