I think that there are several things that could be done. When I drive on the continent, I experience driving standards that are worse than ours, so although I wouldn't argue with trying to improve driving standards, I am not sure that simply blaming drivers offers the best hope for improvements in road safety. e There is a combination of factors, and we need to have an open mind, rather than blindly buttuming it is all down to the driver, and that nothing else matters.

So our drivers don't always spot hazards. If we eliminate the hazards, or make them more obvious to drivers, things might improve and lives might be saved.

Correct. And all we are suggesting is that a perfectly sensible way to start reaching those drivers is to stop using language that pbuttes the buck for their errors...

Driver education has its place as well, don't get me wrong, but it isn't the only thing that could be done.

One problem I think we have is a shortage of roads. Successive governments have failed to provide sufficient road space to meet the demand that they themselves have encouraged. So a mbuttive road building program, to bring us up to the same standsrds of road space per head of population, per vehicle kilometre travelled. per vehicle registred as the rest of Europe might help.
