Well, like I said, the debate is an ethical one. The curious thing about "me-first" types like you is that you harm yourself without even knowing it. You have no love for yourself to begin with, which is why you cannot love others.

I'm only proposing that during the workday, like from, say, seven through six, "private" cars are banned or subject to a discouraging fee. Late night, weekends, holidays, you are free to cruise around, etc. But congestion is simply such that something must be done. How do you propose to improve traffic in the City during business and rush hours, then? With ever-increasing car ownership, everybody loses in the end.

Of course having your own car will ALWAYS be better than even the best public transportation available. (Until EVERYONE has their own car and, guess what, wants to go where you want to go, too!) The question, however, is what we can do to mitigate gridlock, pollution, dependence on foreign oil, and general quality-of-life.

Q.E.D.! My point exactly -- why can't you? Because even though it's easier and cheaper for you to just put all your own garbage in the neighborhood trash can on the corner, it inconviences society at large. Likewise, just because cars are great for car owners, overall the effect is detrimental on so many levels.

Socialistic? I suppose you should give up your paid holidays, then? And health benefits? And your worker's compensation? And your pension, too? After all, these were all communist ideas originally!

And "denial" is not a river in Africa....

Actually, thanks for making my point about the corruption of character which comes with the automobile as a way of life. It is evil in the same way TV is -- egotism.
