NYC IS TOO GOOD TO DRIVERS 3920

Nice of you to delete the context. You denied that a trip that would take 60 minutes by car door to door would take well over two hours by public transit, by saying "No, it's not that bad".

The main thing we car guys need to remember about trucks is "Let the Wookie win." Smart or dumb, experienced or green, in good form or tired or wired or feeling the dispatcher's hot...

I'm sure; the idea that e.g. SEPTA runs the best possible public transit system is ludicrous. But I don't think it can be improved enough. And forcing people to use it isn't going to help.

For two reasons:

1) People expect rush hour to be a horror 2) Driving's often a horror at rush hour as well.

It's not that public transit is GOOD at rush hour, it's that compared to expectations and other forms of transportation, it's not as bad.

I'm familiar with the "camel's nose into the tent" approach. Further, it's pretty clear that if cars are banned during significant portions of a day, their utility is much reduced during other times, because they'll be in the wrong place. That is, if I want to use my car to get somewhere after working late, I can't do so if I couldn't bring my car in to work in the first place.

It's arrogant bordering on the megalomaniacal to claim that you know what is right for society and to demand that others make personal sacrifices to support your vision.

-- There's no such thing as a free lunch, but certain accounting practices can result in a fully-depreciated one.
