they were saying : The telephone. Possibly a real live insurance broker, if they still exist. The "MOT" is the roadworthiness test. DVLA are the evil welsh slugs who issue driving licences...

Hi All.

I've been in England for about 3 months and miss driving. Was wondering if anyone could help with some of the details.

Getting a licence isn't a problem, as there appears to be some sort of reciprocal arrangement between the UK and the colonies.

Where I do run into problems, is-

Insurance: Seemingly all the online quotes require me to have been a resident for at least three years. Can anyone point me in the direction of some that don't?

Motorcycles: I've been driving buttorted vehicles for about 10 years, if I get an exchange licence from the MOT, will this enable me to drive a bike here?

Car groupings: G-reg, B-reg, H-reg etc...... what the hell does this mean?

Tax: I understand that registration is the cheap part, but taxes are levied acording to emmisions?

Road worthy checks (MOT): Are these annual? My plan is to buy a junker for a couple of hundred pounds, and use this as cheap transport. If MOT checks are going to be a hbuttle, maybe I should go for a better car?

Thanks in advance for any help.
