And the answer is ... A5 Corwen, Denbighshire. While I can't deny that I might have...

I used to drive the A5 4 times a week, every week for years. Off the top of my head, the 30 zones on the A5 in North Wales are Llangollen, Glyndyfdwy, Corwen, Pentrefoelas, Betwys-y-Coed, Capel Currig and Bethesda).

The favourite places are a plod in a car parked near the bridge on the left hand side (Westbound side) of the A5 in Pentrefoelas (they normally chase).

If it wasn't here, it could well be the site of my own shame, a plod hidden behind a wall on the left hand side (eastbound) near the NSL sign in Bethesda. (They wave you down)

It's unlikely to be Capel Currig, unless it's a mobile camera in the Shell petrol station on the right (westbound), catching people coming out of the village, and speeding up before the sign.

I've never seen any enforcement in Llangollen, but they extended the 30 limit a while back, so could park a van somewhere on the west side of Llangollen).

Glyndyfdwy - I've seen a policeman hiding in the bus-shelter with a radar gun in the past.

Corwen - never seen any enforcement.

Again, IME, they're always marked police cars, but they could well have the Scamera vans around.

I've never seen a Gatso on that stretch, and drove Llangollen to Capel Currig a month or so ago. I've a friend who was caught in similar circumstances, and the only way he can figure they got him was with a helicopter and the white squares in the road,

Not that this helps, but I'd be interested to see where you were caught.
