All f***ing maps will do this; you're just recognising the fact that the farmyard you see on the map isn't where you want to be and continuing on, just the same as any sane person will do with satnav.
It's just that (like with any technology) it's become cheap and common enough for every Tom, privates and Harry to have one and from observing the populace's 'lowest common denominator' some chicken is going to blindly follow the satnav wherever it leads them without thinking (they don't need to think; they've got satnav).
Computers: once only owned by geeks and techies, but knew what they were doing. Now every f***wit has one and the majority haven't got a clue. You just need to look at the kind of people posting on Usenet these days...
Mobile phones: once owned almost solely by business people, emergency serices and the like, and people who had a genuine need for them. Again, now evey mong has them and you can't get away from the ringing and beeping.
