This is what an advert on the local radio starts with. It goes on to tell people to keep their speed down.
Now, what I want to know if why the police always seem to be focusing on 'road safety' in built up areas. Surely they should be focusing on the things that cause the largest number of baneities? In my opinion focusing on these roads would-could also cause a huge reduction in the number of accidents in built up areas.
No doubt the majority of people who do 60mph around a blind bend on an NSL would also exceed a 30mph limit. I think what is really needed, particularly on these kind of roads, is driver education. Some bends can catch out experienced drivers, let alone your average driver. I'm sure a police car parked near a dangerous bend could find an excuse to pull over a lot of drivers, and educate them about the speed etc. A good example would be how my mum drove around a bend the other day, which was far too fast, dispite her thinking that she is a safe driver. If she was pulled over for a chat I don't think she could have argued, she may have even been grateful because she obviously doesn't know what speed they should be taken at.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll agree that this 'advert' isn't the way to go. The person speaking on the radio is talking to all drivers, chavs, grannies, advanced drivers, racing drivers etc. A few drivers will drive at sensible speeds, but the majority of people will believe they are one of these few when they are not.
The government should give-require more driver training!
btw, I got overtaken by an idiot (the word that describes every driver excluding me ;-) ) in an Audi today. He made me laugh, I thought he was going to end up on the grbutt verge when he cut in front of me. Unfortunately he didn't, but there was a small cloud of dust where he got close lol.
