That's a sensible policy, but there comes a point (more applicable when overtaking streams of traffic) when the speed differential is so great that you have a large danger zone in front of you - where anyone who pulls out into it will be hit. Because of this advanced driving theory suggests a maximum speed differential of, I believe, 25-30mph.
Overtaking 520You don't mention the width of the road. NSL60 roads vary from those just wide enough for one car to move...
If you say you're going as fast as possible then you will *never* have speeded up further, because you can't......
Dangerous Roads 521MrBitsy In which case you might want to be aware of this:- An Australian, a Frenchman and an Englishman are walking along a beach. One of them sees a rusty old...
The reason they speeded up is irrelevent. It's dangerous -
"144: Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pbutt. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pbutt. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you."
Naturally, driving is mostly about judgement; judgement is subjective. There is, though, no excuse for this kind of behaviour. It's dangerous. That's bad enough, but the fact that the police do practically nothing to catch people doing it is appalling.
That's no excuse.
That's no excuse.
HC rule 144 above
If someone's caught up in the first place, it's obvious that they wish to move faster than you. Which brings me on to another gem from the Highway Code -
"145: Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pbutt."
It's so easy to attack other people, as you have done, without providing any credible evidence to back it up.
