Pooh Bear

You're confused, as are many posters. A speed limit is not a recommended speed or a mandated minimum speed. It is merely a "limit" that you may not exceed by law. It's the responsibility of drivers to adjust their speed to safely navigate through varying conditions.

You're ignorant, as are many posters. Arbitrary? Speed limits are set considering many factors none of which include how fast people want to drive. People don't respect them because they're stupid, rude, have no idea of the physics involved and they estimate their chances of receiving a relatively light punishment for violating them as low.

If Aunt Judy Were an Engineer
I'd suspect him of having designed this device. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Canadian auto regulators are testing a system that would enforce speed limits by making it harder to push down the...

Speed limits might be set "intelligently" when a majority of drivers drive "intelligently". That will never happen. Too many drivers have misconstrued the purpose of the highway system. The purpose is- to provide safe and efficient travel. The purpose is not- to provide travel at the highest possible speed or to enjoy minimum travel time.

The main detriment to safety is not high vehicle speed per se, it's the difference in vehicle speeds. Highways need to be safely navigable for drivers of differing skill levels and vehicles of high weight, low speed and limited visibility. Naturally, Grandma or a student driver ain't gonna feel comfortable driving 75 with traffic pbutting at 95+. Large trucks so necessary to the economy can't be safely operated in traffic exceeding their speed by 100%. All the unpleasant womaning here about low speed limits is just a bunch of hot air by people too ignorant to consider anyone but themselves... -----
