Police at RTA 5558

No professional experience, but what others say makes sense. Also try serving and ex. police officers on there.

When I had an accident some way from home I was taken to hospital for a checkup and received no instructions from the police. 5 days later the Administration of Justice Unit - Accident Section sent me a letter, which I quote -

The other posters have said that the officer made a mistake which is indeed probably right. But do you want to join in on this yobbish culture that we live in and stick...

" . . In order to facilitate the prompt investigation of this matter, it would be helpful if you would take this letter to a Police Station convenient to yourself within 7 days and produce the following documents relating to the use of your vehicle on the date of the accident.

1. Driving licence 2. Certificate of insurance 3. Test certificate 4.

This letter will be returned by the Officer in Charge of the Police Station at which it is produced, together with details of the above documents, to me at the above address."

The policeman at the local station said that this was strange and he'd never seen it done this way before (I presume from what others say that's because there's as standard form - HORT1?), but nevertheless he did what was required and it obviously satisfied the requirements because I heard no more about it.

The police said in a later letter that the other driver at the scene who wasn't taken to hospital was given a producer.
