I would point out that limits are strictly enforced on Deutsche autobahnen in rain and mist, and I don't mean 3 points and £60 (which is nothing if you can afford a supercarv fast motor) I mean jail which is one hell of a deterrent

As far as I know the only other place in the world without limits in a few decades was one US state (sorry forgotten which ) had unlimited roads in the desert for a few years while as it was bigger than Britain and had around 3 inhabitants thought it would be safe and was the sort of state that believed any central govlaws stopping peoples freedom were some commie plot (until they started finding supercars crashed Local Chevy owners dead as they were dawdling at 80mph when the 200mph motors crashed into them and had to get a few extra inhabitants from another state to drive the pick-ups-ambulances to heave the crates away
