OK, for me it's something I've considered (but it's still way down the list), but for many it would mean cutting costs elsewhere. That's another factor the idiots in whitehall don't seem to grasp - people have limited budgets and if you keep squeezing them then other areas are going to get scrimped on (like keeping the tyres on until they are down to the minimum instead of changing them with an extra mm or so).
And of course, what does it really say if the answer to not getting points is a cruise control ? It further re-inforces the false message that as long as you stick to some arbitrary number then you're safe. It's a load of bollocks, and when you are trying to legislate for the numpties that can't show restraint then the last thing you want to be doing is teach them that they can do 30mph at any time, in any conditions, in any built up area* and not have to worry !
* buttuming it isn't a 20 zone of course, in which case just subsbreastute 20.
So is in practical terms useless as a speed holding device.
