I've seen some really awful examples of driving over the Christmas break this year. Standards can be expected to fall I suppose, with so many of the professional drivers taking advantage of the break to not drive thus helping to dilute the standards. None the less, you have to wonder at the way some people drive.
Last night I was in L2 of 2 of a long slip road (around 1 mile) which feeds onto a 3 lane motorway to my right alongside it, or continues on the provide a left-right choice of a crossing motorway. I was doing around the limit and in L1 of the adjacent motorway was an older car trundling along at about 45 on my right, with nothing much else in sight.
I thought he might just decide to turn off, so I moved over to my L1 to give me a little more safety as I pbutted him. As I drew almost level with him, he swung straight across the three lanes into my L1 forcing me to use the hard shoulder to avoid him. How with so few other moving lights around and so much space can you fail to notice a fast approaching vehicle behind you?
I've seen numerous examples of drivers weaving about on the road and obviously still under the influence. I driver trundling along at 60 in L4 of 5, with not a thing for a mile ahead of him - drivers behind him in four lanes then having to all pull out to squeeze past in L5.
A change of heartThere's your first wrong buttumption. It's not. The System is essentially the same now as it has always been...
