When I was stopped by traffic plod in about 1988 for doing 96 on the M6 at least they explained the error of my ways to me, making a few pointers to my driving style. IE they said if your gonna do 96 mph on a dry motorway at 11pm at night, then DONT overtake a police car when doing it cos then they are really oblidged to pull you as it looks like they are letting you get away with it otherwise! He was just coming on the motorway on a slip that comes up to motoway level so never saw him at all but he obviously saw me, LOL. I saw this car in my mirror gaining on me (i was in L3). Looked again a couple of seconds later and he was still gaining. I looked at the car and thought, that aint a police car as I saw the little tiny square sidelights on the bumper and couldnt think of a car that the plod used that had them. As he was moving quicker than me I pulled to Lane2 and then as he pulled beside me, my heart sank! All I saw was blue lights, a nice long bright yellow strip along the car and the pbuttanger pointing at me to pull over. Bummer, It was a Jag of some description!
I then got stopped in about 1994 for doing 85 on a DC as I was leaving my voluntary work to get home. They asked if I knew why I was been stopped and I just thought it was cos I had one of those "if driven by anyone under 25 after midnight then please pull me" stickers on the car. I said this too them and at the same time offered my ID to them. They said no, it was cos I was speeding but let me on my way with word or warning etc. The ID was of course a warrant card and badge, LOL...... Speed camera wouldnt of done that would it!
