Rolling road block 242
Steve Firth I very, very rarely see a PSV-LGV driver behaving other than considerately or skillfully on the road...

He pleaded not guilty in court and there was no dispute about the condition of the light. Both prosecution and defence conceded the point that the light was amber and there was no suggestion that the car crossed the line during a red phase. However, there was also no dispute that he could have stopped safely had he been inclined to do so. Like many people, he was ignorant of the law in this matter.

I think it was a bit harsh, really, though. I suspect that fact of the matter was that the person was not a brown noser like myself. It usually pays to treat the constabulary with respect in these situations.

I'm at least 95% sure that if it had been me that had been pulled in that situation, I'd be chatting away with them about local schools or something after two about minutes having apologised profusely and made up some story about not noticing the exact moment of the light changing. It certainly would have been swearing and receiving a NIP like the person in question.

There are lots of laws that are never (and probably should not be) enforced (i.e. no parking on the right side of the road and vans must use parking lights at night). However, the police will use their discretion to use them against people they do not like given the right circumstances.

Christian.
