Remember Terrorism is a MICROSCOPIC problem 3572jcr Very true. There's a very fine line between insulting someone with a (political) purpose and insulting a billion people because you don't like the actions of an individual or small group. I...
That's quite possible!
A few examples have shown up here in NZ recently: eg. Lego has taken NZ Maori names and applied them to one of it's theme ranges of toys - they didn't know what they were doing and succeeded in applying them in totally inappropriate ways. Not only did they insult 10-15% of our population but they also copywrited the names, which causes problems here with everyday words. Ford (I think) took Maori tattoo designs and applied them to one of their cars. Given that every Maori tattoo has a particular tribal and gender significance the misuse is offensive. One of your computer game makers took a hotch-potch of Maori, Japanese and other Pacific traditional actions and designs and turned them into a super-fighting individual. The Maori Moko design, worn only by mature women, is on his chin, and he regularly stabs his spear into the earth. That's about as offensive as one can go in representing a Maori - the earth represents the Mother God so the action is the ultimate in evil.
What I'm trying to get across, is that ignorance is not an excuse when you're attempting to represent another culture - if you don't know then don't go there.
