Revealed: How To Drive Motorists Mad

Another 'Speeding fine lie' conviction
Right... I'll try to be a little less insulting. Firstly I'm talking generally rather than about my own specific case - I've usually got a bloody good idea about what my speed is, though I'll admit...

Yes he can, he can move over.

TBH tailgating is touted as "dangerous" but it's generally only becomes dangerous when the person at the head of the queue decides to make it dangerous. In Italy tailgating is a way of life, drivers get much closer than they do in the UK, what we consider "dangerous tailgating" to most Italians is the distance they set when following a friend or family member. Tailgating in Italy is when cars get down to a separation of a few cm.

Despite this I've not seen much sign of accidents being caused this way *unless* the driver being tailgated indulges in some of the lunatic behaviour advocated here by the self-righteous. (i.e. throwing things from the vehicle, slamming on the brakes, using the hand brake etc.)

It seems that the British consider that tailgating is such a dangerous activity that the only sensible thing to do is to inflame the situation, make it worse and precipitate an accident.

In the vague (ultimately vain) hope that they may move over. I don't want to intimidate them so moving up closer (tailgating) isn't something I do, one can't flash headlights the police consider it road rage to do so. And pulling back to the left usually signals to the fool ahead that you don't want to pbutt. Since I didn't have anyone behind me I wasn't causing an obstruction as the person ahead of me was. There was also I must admit an interest in seeing how long it would take for the person ahead to look in their mirror. BTW, in the end the situation was resolved when I saw a car approaching me, so I pulled in, let it past, he tailgated the car ahead, flashed his lights and it moved over to the left.

What would you do?

Then you should be safe from tailgaters.
