Reversing an artic
Mike G says... Actually in many cases it can be. I doubt you'll have noticed if the trailer had rear steer or he...

Thats how the driver gains experience - its not always easy and it has to learned the hard way through trial an error. One thing to do is to watch car drivers try and reverse caravans or even small trailers - now size that up to a 45ft solid trailer at night in the peeing rain - even old artic drivers take a few cuts to get it right. I was delivering to Morrisons here in my home town last week and the store is under reconstruction just now. I had to park on the mains street, open the trailer doors, put the emergency flashers on. I waited for a break in the traffic and began to reverse off the main road into the loading bay area - even with all the hints and clues to what I was doing there was still one knob-head in a car who overtook the stationary bus behind me. When he realised that the n-s-front of the trailer would soon be crushing his roof he drove up completely on the pavement and proceeded to circumnavigate around me. By and large though, most people are patient and just wait for me to finish the manouvre.
