Rita: Running Out of Gas in Evacuation Traffic Jams

And that would be regardless of whether or not a refinery (or pipeline) was actually shut down. I wouldn't put it past the news media to make a false story of a refinery(es) or pipeline(es) going down inorder to generate more news off the panic rush to buy gas that we saw here in GA after Katrina.

One of my cars is already full and I'll probablly be going to fill the other one tomorrow. We just got back from a trip to j-ville this afternoon and the car is at aout 3-4 tank which is where I usually gas up anyway, so its not like i'm making a special trip for fuel. Then I think the cars are going to be parked for the next week or so - save for driving that is absolutely necessary - untill the latest media generated "shortage," and unnecessary run on the gas have past.

Thinking of Florida, I made an interesting observation while on this latest trip and an earlier trip to J-ville for a football game on the 11th.

Earlier in the month - as we are well aware - the state (and local)taxes on gasoline were lifted in GA by the Gorvernor's order and approved by our State Representatives. This amounted to about $0.15 per gallon in taxes being removed and in theory that should be pbutted to the consumer.

Paul. Oh, to cover a story you mean, and get shots of a flaming tire...

When I left Brunswick this AM, gas was ranging from $2.499 to $2.599 per gallon with out the state-local taxes. In Jacksonville, I noted prices of $2.68 plus 19 to $2.759 per gallon with all the taxes included (according to gaspricewatch.com, that can range from $0.45 to $0.529 per gallon. See: to $2.99 per gallon in both Brunswick (no tax) and in Jacksonville (with FL's notoriously high taxes) and that day, I filled up in Kingsland at $2.619 per gallon. And most of the gas we get comes from either Jacksonville or Savannah by ship, not by pipeline like the ones out of N.O. IMO, the gas retaliers here in Brunswick really have a racket going here, gouging right and left.

And yes, I know some of you in other regions are paying much more than what we pay here. -- Paul.
