Rita: here we go again.... 2662

Paul.

Oh, to cover a story you mean, and get shots of a flaming tire? They looked pretty cool, so I guess it was worth the effort. Not just making prices rise for no reason other than supposed ratings, which showing the black looters and white salvagers did a good job of gaining them I'm sure.

The increased costs of gas for a major corporation (and all the news-providing networks are owned by companies with interests outside of news) would negate the extra money they'd make for ratings, espescially since ads during news programs are relatively cheap compared to if they found another way to tie-in American Idol to Fox News.

Though, if any of them are linked to Big Oil (and with all the corporate families we have today, I have no idea either way if they are) I'll give your idea a lot more credibility.

In addition, from the journalists I personally know, if any of them found out that the story was being manipulated to raise gas prices, that's freaking journalistic dynamite. The media are more than happy to tear into each other, so they try to stay clear of planted stories, if they can. It's just something else for the other guy to report about.
