I didn't hear it myself so I can't comment. I remember last time, when the IAM advice came out, how everyone latched on to the wrong part of the statement and it got distorted. Has the same thing happened again? What was actually said last time was that the driver should be in an appropriate gear for the circumstances and that sometimes the use of a lower gear in a 30 limit can help to control your speed.
What was latched onto and spread as "the IAM advice" was that you should drive in 3rd in a 30. Clearly not the same thing at all.
So, what did the RoSPA spokesman actually say?
I wouldn't be too suprised though Ray. One thing you have to bear in mind is that a spokesman from RoSPA is not the same thing as a spokesman from RoADA. I can think of several issues where the RoADA members have a difference of opinion with the parent body.
RoSPA now saying 3rd in 30mph limits! 5074it It will likely depend on whether it's an entirely electronic throttle - but a little irrelevant, really. I'm merely pointing out the compromise between smoothness in gear changes, with an auto. Sure, you...
