What has the ability to give a non stop running commentary whilst driving, got to do with ones competence as a driver? Surely it's better if a drivers attention is not divided between two different thaught processes? I quite recognise that an instructor needs to know the thinking of a trainee, but all that really matters is that a driver is aware of potential hazards, and reacts accordingly. Whether they can talk about them at the same time has no relevance to their driving ability, and is therefore not particularly important

I have never disputed that, but your argument appears to have changed slightly, by the addition of 'the majority of ordinary motorists'. It seems you now accept that some motorists can achieve high stds without advanced tuition. Which is the point I've been making during most of this discussion.

I've given up noting or commenting on the behaviour of other drivers, unless they are particularly dangerous, and could possibly involve me in any resulting accident. Initially I treat all other drivers as idiots, until their driving indicates otherwise. Expect them to do the unexpected. If they don't, it's Ok. If they do, you're prepared. Mike.
