But if a driver trained only to the basic 'pbutt test' standard does not know how to...

I can accept that that may apply to the majority of drivers. What I don't accept is that there are 'techniques and methods' only known to advanced drivers. That there are 'secrets' that only advanced drivers can impart. These 'secrets' are not the sole preserve of advanced driving instructors. They are there for anyone to discover for themselves. Possibly or if you prefer, probably, the majority of drivers never do discover them, and need to have them pointed out. But, they were found, dicovered, whatever, by, presumably, good drivers before they were adopted and taught by advanced driving instructors to their pupils. Whose to say that those same 'secrets'?, are not being rediscovered by observant drivers today?

I would

I've no doubt there's room for improvement. I'd be a fool if I thaught otherwise. All the same, I'm not really interested enough to go for advanced driving tuition. I did consider it once a good few years ago, as I understood it might result in lower insurance premiums. After making a few enquries, it appeared that with the maximum bonuses I already had, it wouldn't get any lower, so I abandoned the thaught.:-) Mike.
