Mark Foster who overestimate I don't know, that's why I've been using the word 'different'. I'm not trying to...

skills something I

I would suggest that there is often more than one way of looking at a given situation, and more than one way of responding to it, with no one way being 'the best'. Similar situations can have subtle differences, that require equally subtle responses. I believe reading these differences, and tailoring ones response to them, is one of the differences that distinguish a good driver from a mediocre one. I certainly don't believe there is a 'one answer suits all' solution to ever changing traffic or road conditions.

There are different aspects to the 'system' of advanced driving. Some (such as MSM and gearchanging techniques) are fairly prescriptive. Most, however, are simply making drivers aware of things...

driving

Such as? I would suggest that if a good experienced driver has to taught them, they are not particularly important.

If you have been taught initially to a mediocre standard (for for!

I have forgotten completely what I was taught whilst learning to drive. I did learn to drive and pbutted my test driving a 3 ton lorry, if that makes any difference.:-) As far as I'm aware, my way of driving now, is basically self taught, based on observation and a small amount of reading.

comment

That comment is based on answers I read in these n-group when questions about driving situations are answered by those that say their replies are based on what they were taught when taking an advanced driving course. I seldom take part in these discussions. Many have very obvious answers, and others are far more capable than I of giving helpful answers. Another reason for not replying, is that I find it difficult to give categoric answers. As I implied earlier. So many factors can affect the way one responds to a given situation.

I'm not for one

Better from what POV? Safer? My driving record suggests I'm a safe driver anyway. If it just involves techniques, maybe I'm happy with the technique I have at present. It's kind to the car, and doesn't incurr uneccessary wear and tear. IMO. :) Mike.
